Eiffel Towers 130th birthday celebrated

The world-famous Eiffel Tower, a household name even in urban India, is today celebrating its 130th birthday. France has decked up Paris for the occasion. An aesthetic light show has been held at the famed monument.

Built in 1889, the Tower measures 324 metres in height. Its weight is 7,300 tonnes. About 70 lakh tourists visit it every year. "It continues to be France's most visited monument," a report says.

In India's popular culture, several movies have shown it as a backdrop for rom-com scenes.
