An arrest warrant against Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami was issued by the West Bengal court in a case of domestic violence filed by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. Kolkata's Alipore court has given Shami 15 days to surrender. The charge sheet had been filed under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code.

Speaking to a news agency, Hasin Jahan said, "I'm grateful to judicial system. I have been fighting for justice more than a year now. You all know, Shami thinks that he is all too powerful, that he is a big cricketer. Had I not been from West Bengal, had Mamata Banerjee not been our CM, I wouldn't have been able to live safely here. Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) police was trying to harass me and my daughter, it was God's grace that they didn't succeed."

Mohammed Shami is currently playing the second Test against West Indies. Responding to the matter, the BCCI said, "Yes, we do understand that an arrest warrant has been issued. But don’t really see us getting involved in this at this point in time. Once we see the charge sheet, we can decide how things stand and if the BCCI constitution calls for any action. But at this point in time, I would say it is too early to take a call on the matter."
