Five time grand slam winner Maria Sharapova announces retirement!

One of the most popular and highest paid sportswomen of the world, Five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova, has announced her retirement from Tennis at the age of 32.She had recently written in articles for several International magazines - "Tennis - I'm saying goodbye".

Sharapova's Tennis career took off when she won Wimbledon as a 17-year-old in 2004, becoming the third-youngest player to win the event. In 2005, she had become the world's number one, and won the US Open next year. The talented Maria had won five grand slams but her career was hugely impacted by her shoulder problems.

Besides, she was served a 15-month ban after failing a drugs test at the 2016 Australian Open. Currently ranked 373, Sharapova had not played much tennis in the recent years due to her shoulder problems and had crashed out in the first rounds at Wimbledon, the US Open the recent Australian Open in Melbourne. Sharapova has tweeted "Tennis showed me the world—and it showed me what I was made of. It’s how I tested myself and how I measured my growth. And so in whatever I might choose for my next chapter, my next mountain, I’ll still be pushing. I’ll still be climbing. I’ll still be growing."
