This accident has happened in Chennai’s Koyambedu. Kalaiarasi (30), Saravanan (35), and their son, Karthikeyan (8) died when they inhaled the toxic gas emitted by the AC, effected by an inverter, in their bedroom.

On Monday night, when the family was about to go to bed, the power went off. They turned the inverter for their AC on and slept. After they were asleep, power was restored. However, none in the room was awake to switch the inverter off.

As a result, the AC’s cylinders started to leak. Eventually, this resulted in asphyxiation. All the doors and windows in the room had been closed.

The incident has shocked the family's neighbours, who were the first to report the tragedy to the police.
