Actor Kamal Haasan from the very beginning has supported the protest. In fact he always had a definite stand on Jalikkattu and he made it vociferous whenever he got chance.

He didn`t hesitate to appreciate the youth behind this agitation. He attacked the Tamilnadu government for the bungling with the issue and on how they handled the agitation. He said that people protest when decisions are enforced on them.

The actor explained his point by comparing it with caparisoned elephants in Kerala which is an inevitable part of Kerala festivals. Even though there are attacks and destruction by elephants during musth, the convention still continues, so why not Jalikkattu asks the actor. Scores of people die in car accidents than Jalikkattu, but no one bans cars, asks the actor.

Kamal suggested that instead of banning Jalikattu government should amend the law and impose restrictions on how it is carried out.
