Kanika, who made many attempts to break into big league in spite of being beautiful and talented, is again turning to Malluwood for better prospects. And now she is selected as superstar Mammootty's heroine in the historical big budget film titled Pazhassi Raja.

“It's every actors dream to do a Malayalam film, where you get to do performance oriented roles. And that too against Mammootty is really my dream come true. So I have given bulk dates to the film which will be shot in Kerala”, says Kanika about her new thrilling assignment. She has started shooting for the magnum opus, and gave a stunning look in the typical Kerala outfits of the past, the film which is planned as an Onam release, is in its first schedule at Neeleshwaram.

She plays the role of the princess of Pazhassi Raja, the first King who took on British in the Malabar area. Sneha was earlier reported to be in the role. The film has a big cast including the Tamil actor Sarath Kumar, Jagathy, Manoj K Jayan and Padmapriya, who plays important roles in the film. The film has almost all the crew of the classic of the late eighties Oru Vadakkan Veeragaatha which is directed by veteran award winning director Hariharan in the scripts of M T Vasudevan Nair. The film is shot in Pan Vision Camera by Venu and the music section is handled by maestro Ilayaraja.
