A 30-year-old woman, who has been married for 9 years, recently discovered that she is genetically male after going through a series of tests following her cancer diagnosis.

The woman visited the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Cancer Hospital in Kolkata after developing severe pain in her lower abdomen. Her oncologists conducted various tests and determined that she was genetically male and had developed testicular cancer. "From her appearance, she is a woman. Starting from her voice, developed breasts, normal external genitalia, everything is that of a woman. However, uterus and ovaries have been absent since birth. She has also never experienced menstruation. We conducted clinical examinations, after she complained of abdominal pain, and found out she has testicles inside her body. A biopsy was conducted, following which she was diagnosed with testicular cancer, also called seminoma. As her testicles remained undeveloped inside the body, there was no secretion of testosterone. Her female hormones, on the other hand, gave her the appearance of a woman," the doctor stated, according to a report by a news agency.

The woman is currently undergoing chemotherapy and her condition is said to be stable. She had apparently tried to have children with her husband in the past, but was unable to get pregnant. Regarding the woman's reaction to the information, the doctor reportedly said, "The person has grown up to be a woman. She is married to man for almost a decade. Currently, we are counselling the patient and her husband, advising them to continue living life as they have been."

It has also been determined that the woman's sister and two of her maternal aunts have been suffering from the condition, known as Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, as well. Hence, the doctors suspect that it is a genetic disorder.
