Military sources in Jammu & Kashmir say that a Pakistani army helicopter strayed briefly into Indian air-space yesterday.

Pakistan has been launching unprovoked and strong attacks along India’s border (Line of Control) besides sponsoring anti-India terror activities.  In such attacks, as many as 21 casualties (including 12 security personnel) have occurred so far this year and more than 75 had been injured.  As per the agreement entered into by the two countries, no airplane/chopper should come within 10 km/1 km from the border.

It is in this backdrop that a Pakistani military chopper was spotted within 300 metres of India’s border, which was a clear violation of the agreement as the chopper had no business to intrude into Indian space beyond the limit of 1 km from inside the border.  “The chopper was spotted at 10:00 a.m. and promptly returned to Pakistani air-space within a few minutes.  As it didn’t cross the border, India didn’t fire at it,” a source said.

Though this is not exactly a violation into Indian border, it was certainly a breach of the agreement that no chopper would fly within one km from insider the border.  Officials said that the matter would be brought to the attention of Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.  In the meantime, another source said that 3 choppers which were spotted and one among them came close to 300 metres within the border.
