Album: Psycho

Composer: Ilayaraja

'Movingly melodious'

After ‘Nandalala’ and ‘Onaiyum Aatukuttiyum’, Mysskin has roped in Ilayaraja for a third time for his highly anticipated ‘Psycho’. Starring Udhayanidhi Stalin, Aditi Rao Hydari and Nithya Menen, the film is all set for release post coming Christmas. While the Mysskin-Ilayaraja combo has given us scintillating musical experiences, let’s see what ‘Psycho’ has in store for us in terms of music.

‘Unna Nenanchu’

Singer: Sid Sriram, Lyricist: Kabilan

One can boldly say that Ilayaraja’s magic lies in his ability to bring out nostalgia and charm through his compositions. Unna Nenachu is very much Raja’ish with minimal and subtle treatments to the music. There is a string interlude as well and as expected, its melting enough as even Kabilan’s lines cry out sorrow and despair. It’s also interesting to note that this is Sid’s first time singing for Ilayaraja. Sid exposes a soft, smooth and soothing quality to his vocals. One might even wonder if this was the closest a piece of music, vocals and lyrics can confluence perfectly.
