"Yuvan nails it with versatility"

‘Raja Ranguski’ has its music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. With five tracks(one theme), the album seems a well rounded affair. There is a gaana, and an excellent Gift of Life, which this writer feels is a gift to the album. Yuvan has also brought Simbu to sing a power packed song which has already become a hit among fans. Read the full review here down below.

Pattukutty Neethan - Singers: Yuvan Shankar Raja - Lyricist: Kabilan

Kabilan brings his romantic mischief into this songs through his lyrics. And combine that with Yuvan’s steady paced composition, the song falls crisp and clear on our ears. Yuvan Shankar Raja has delivered to expectations as usual. The song’s form is not that one of hurry, but easy, simple and quite impressive.

Mr.X - Singers: STR - Lyricist: Mohanrajan

There is a definite angst in the vocal rendition that only Simbu could materialize, he doesn't forget to even make it musical in a techno/'trance' EDM setting. A low siren portion followed by Simbu’s juggling between octaves gives the song its general character- a challenge to the opponent. It's mildly arrogant lyrics - 'Naa yaarunu theriyuma, enna jeichuda mudiyuma'- are quite bland in their goals and that’s why its straight hitting sans ornamentation. Yuvan nails it usually in this genre where he feels in his zone, and the same could be said of this track as well.

Kaadhal Gaana - Singers: VM Mahalingam - Lyricist: Mohanrajan

First things first, Mahalingamhas really brought out the necessary energy, inflections for the song. His folkish voice with Mohanrajan’s lines help amp Yuvan’s composition. We don’t hear composing more songs like this and when he does, it’s a delight. There is a comic sense in the lines which makes this song much cheery despite the cribbingit does about love. Eg: ‘Aaviyila ventha itly nu peru. . aaviye ventha kaadhal nu peru’. .this and many such lines will bring a smile, and at the same time rendering its true function as well. Add it to your gaana playlist ASAP.

Gift of Life - Singers: Faridha - Lyricist: Mohanrajan

This song is a standout track in the album. Faridha’s voice is piercing as is the lines that Mohanrajan has written for this number. You get an idea of his versatility- the guy who wrote Kaadhal Gaana can also pen something so truthful and touching as Gift of Life. Yuvan as a composer has used minimalist score to enhance the lyrical power and with Faridha’s rendition, a definite thumps up for this song.

Shadow Theme - Instrumental

Shadow theme is an expression of two sides to the same track. One sounding innocent and simple, and the other much sinister and energetic as well. The duality of the theme also corresponds to why it is ‘shadow’ theme. The second part of the song sounds like anattempt at exact contrast to the initial portions.  Would be interesting to see where it is used in the movie though.

Pickof the Album: Gift of Life

Verdict: Yuvan has dished out a formidable album that is worth repeat hearings.
