Situational songs to the fore
Monday, October 16, 2006 • Telugu Comments

Everyone has a hero in him. But that hero would come out only when the need arises. While some wait for him to come, some others choose to go for it. Director Ravi C Kumar shaped 'Samanyudu' with both the qualities. The story is basically about a normal man, who fought against forces of evil and trouble due to circumstances. Director Ravi managed to bring the latent talent in Jagapati Babu to the fore. Kamna Jethmalani paired up with Jagapati Babu as heroine. She has lots of hopes on 'Samanyudu', as it would give a break in her career. Samanyudu also has Sai Kumar, Vinod Kumar and Dasari Vijay Kumar in key roles. Vandemataram Srinivas gave the music.

Aadavaallu Kopamlona. Tara rara.  Singers: Naveen, Suchitra

It looks this is a situational song. The hero and heroine are making accusations on the qualities of males and females. Moreover the song should have choreographed with a group. Vandemataram Srinivas tuned the song in a folk style. The music bits between the stanzas give lots of scope for dance on a mass beat. Though there is a chance for foot-tapping, but the song tuned in an old style because of the folk beat. Could listen and watch for once. Repeat value is less.

Maguva Premalo.  Singers: Naveen, Chitra, Sriramprabhu

This number is yet another situational song. A friend must be teasing his friend when he identified that the latter is in love with a girl. The tune has some classical tunes in between, besides some commercial elements. The music in the interludes suggests some histrionics to pretend that he was not in love with anyone. Chitra's sweet voice in the song is melodious and elevates the mood. Though the literary value on love is okay, it is an average song.

Ye Mere Dil Ke  Singer: Sonu Kakkad

This is an item number. Sonu Kakkad rendered the song in a quite husky voice. The song would definitely make the frontbenchers dance to the tune. At the same time the literary value is good in the song. There is a right mix of English and Telugu words and Vandemataram Srinivas tuned it in such a way that it would remain on the tongues even after the audience return from the theatre. It has a good mass masala mix.

Endira Bammardi  Singer: Vandemataram Srinivas

Vandemataram Srinivas had initially worked for revolutionary films with rural and forest backdrops in the early stages of his music direction. It looks he could not forget those days and tuned the song in a pucca rural/forest style. At the same time, he himself rendered the song. The song has neither good to listen nor is tuned well. A song, which could be avoided conveniently. It has to be seen how it is shot on the screen. The song must have a slum locality in its backdrop given the theme of the song.

Veedu Yama hot ra baabu.  Singer: Sunidhi Chauhan

This is a solo song for the heroine it seems. The first stanza of the song has the name of Jagapathi Babu himself, besides the character's names of his earlier hit films such as 'Gayam Durga' and 'Antahpuram Veerraju' in it. The lyricist tried the lyric in a novel way. Even the second stanza is also like describing the qualities of the hero. The heroine was shown in a glamorous way with sea in its backdrop -  not so bad tune.

Samanyudu theme song.  Singer: Nihal

Basically it is a theme song. It is a bit song which runs for just two minutes. As it comes in the background, the lyric has the praise of the hero. The music director tuned it to suit and elevate the mood the audiences to the situation. However, the audio has no repeat value to hear, but could be watched only on the screen due to its theme nature.
