A pregnant elephant was recently killed by locals near the Silent Valley in Palakkad district rather cruelly. The savagery of the incident is so heart-rending that it will move you to tears.

As per reports, sometime in the last week of May, the elephant walked into the streets of the Silent Valley in search of food. Some locals, who are yet to be identified, decided to abuse her. They fed her a cracker-laden pineapple.

The elephant ate the pineapple not knowing that the crackers will burst once she swallows them. A forest official has said that the elephant must have been pained not just physically but also emotionally thinking about the baby in its stomach.

The explosion of the crackers caused bruises in its mouth. Despite undergoing enormous pain, the elephant didn't harm anybody.

"The elephant eventually walked up to the Velliyar River and stood there. Photos showed the elephant standing in the river with her mouth and trunk in water, perhaps for some relief from the unbearable pain. The forest officer said she must have done this to avoid flies and other insects on her injuries," says an NDTV report.

The shocking and inhuman incident has invited criticism from celebs. Rashmi Gautam wrote, "Karma will hit back someday he/she will want to be a parent and his/her suffering will be till the end of his/her time (sic)." 'ABCD' actor Allu Sirish said, "Really saddened by this horrendous news. I wish authorities bring the perpetrators to justice quickly. I pray that this is the last such incident."
