Was Modi’s utter disregard for Advani at Agartala intentional?

Social networking sites are going viral with a minute-long video footage in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen to be utterly neglecting party veteran and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-elected BJP Govt. headed by Biplap Deb as Tripura’s new chief-minister.

The swearing-in ceremony was held last Thursday (09th March) when Biplap Deb was sworn-in as the chief-minister, ending the 25-year long rule of the CPI-M chief-minister Manik Sarkar. BJP did well to trounce the CPI-M and managed to win two-thirds majority along with its allies.

Senior BJP leaders Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, L.K. Advani, party president Amit Shah, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, outgoing chief-minister Manik Sarkar were among those seated on the dais when Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived to take part in the function.

The Prime Minister greeted each leader with folded hands and when Advani greeted him, Modi neglected him and instead had a long chat with Manik Sarkar, who was seated next. Advani’s embarrassment was too tangible to go unnoticed and political observers found it hard to explain why Modi, who was once Advani’s protégé, behaved in a manner which heaped insult on his political guru and mentor.
