Someone has amputated his wife's hand after she secured a government job as a nurse. The shocking incident has come to light in East Burdwan, West Bengal.

As per media reports, Sher Md Sheik (26) wanted his wife to be homebound and not do a job. She started working as a nurse at a private hospital in 2018 and also started appearing for government exams. In May, the hardworking woman, named Renu Khatun, secured a nurse's job at a government hospital.

Recently, after listening to the news about his wife's success at the job trials, Sheik picked up an argument with his wife, asking her not to leave the town to do the job. The wife didn't surrender to his fulminations. The enraged husband chopped off her husband.

The victim is currently undergoing care in an ICU. The accused man runs a grocery store.

The incident only goes to show that women have it tough in orthodox and conservative households where patriarchy takes virulent forms on occasions. A few media reports have said that the husband resorted to the inhuman act over irrational fears that his wife might fall in love with someone if she starts working.
