Nicole and Edward who were supposed to get married on May 26th arranged an earlier wedding in the hospital for the bride’s mother, Jane Hartstein. Her mother had suffered a stroke following which she has been put on a ventilator in a respiratory care unit for the past three years. She would not have been able to make it to New Jersey for the wedding. Never mind because the couple took the wedding to her.

Jane was overwhelmed with joy when she saw her daughter and her fiance arrive at the hospital in their wedding gear. The staff at the Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Long Island transformed the family room into a wedding chapel. Mother and daughter both teared up at the ceremony. Nicole told her mother: “I know you wanted to be at our wedding, so we’re bringing our wedding to you.” Jane who was pleasantly surprised said: “I can’t believe this. I’m just so happy, I can’t believe they did this.” The groom Edward was also very supportive of his bride. He said: “I just want Nicole to be happy, and I want her mom to be happy, too. We knew we wanted to do this.”

Their wedding in the hospital which will mark their anniversary date, went off superbly. Jane also watched the second one on Livestream, but she would have been able to watch it without much regret. Because by then she had already received what she called the “best gift anyone could ever have given me.” What the couple has done seems in the true spirit of marriage, love.
