Will Band Baaja Baaraat give Tees Maar Khan a fight?

With combined collections of 'Mirch', 'Kaalo', 'Payback' and '332 Mumbai to India' failing to come anywhere close to the 1 crore mark, the picture was clear on the wall. All around disasters at the box office, these are the films that were lying in the cans for quite a while and were released haphazardly so that Bollywood could close its accounts. Though a couple of films did have some redeeming qualities to them, they were not good enough for audience to notice.

The movie that benefited most from this largely open week was 'Band Baaja Baaraat'. The film enjoyed yet another bountiful week for itself by showing bare minimum drop from the first week. The fall was only in a 15%-20% range (something which is terrific as a normal fall for majority of films are around 50%) and hence the second week's collections read close to 8 crores. The film has now crossed 17 crores at the box office and while it will obviously see a drop in collections in the week gone by (due to 'Tees Maar Khan' wave), there are all the chances of this small film stabilising all over again (on a lower side) in weeks to come. It would be keenly observed if audience will catch a breather once the euphoria of 'Tees Maar Khan' settles down and give 'Band Baajar Baaraat' a dekko all over again.

While 20 crores is a given for 'Band Baaja Baaraat', it would be interesting to see the distance that it travels from here on. A Semi-hit at the box office, this Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma starrer has turned out to be one of the most loved films of 2010 with not a single soul having a negative word to say about it. Expect the film to become a hot favourite on satellite and DVD circuits on the same lines as 'Jab We Met'.

As for 'No Problem', it flattered to deceive after a reasonably okay first weekend. The film showed a big drop in the second week and garnered just 7 crores more, hence bringing the overall total to 28 crores. Looking at wrapping up just over the 30 crores mark, this multi starrer affair is a flop though the losses won't be overtly huge due to reasonable price and revenue coming from other sources (satellite, music, home video etc.). Still, from audience perception perspective, the film is a major disappointment.
