Though a success, 100 crores looks tough for 'Bol Bachchan'

IndiaGlitz [Monday, July 09, 2012]

As predicted last week, 'Bol Bachchan' took 60%-70% opening and there were no records broken.

The reason for a good, not excellent opening (as was widely expected after the first theatrical promo) was also highlighted here - 'The newer set of promos were average due to which curiosity build up wasn't as strong towards the days leading to the film's release'.

While it was a given that 50 crore opening weekend would be a long haul, it was felt that 40 crore would most comfortably get crossed.

However that wasn't the case to be as 'Bol Bachchan' collected 39 crores and just fell a little short of the milestone. Reason being that even though Sunday was bountiful, 12 crores each coming on Friday and Saturday meant that the gap widened for 'Bol Bachchan' before it could reach the coveted spot.

Though this is still much better than what 'Golmaal 3' and 'Singham' had accumulated in the opening weekend, hence giving Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn as well as Abhishek Bachchan their best opening ever, the difference lies in the appreciation factor.

Both aforementioned films had feedback ranging from good to excellent.

On the other hand for 'Bol Bachchan', it has ranged from 'theek thaak' to average to good. While this means that the film is obviously safe, a 100 crore total is very far away.

What also adds to the challenge is 'Cocktail' which is expected to be Saif Ali Khan's best opener in the multiplexes at the least.

However in single screens 'Bol Bachchan' should continue a good run for three full weeks. On the other hand '3 Bachelors' couldn't even sustain well for 3 days, what with it's release being haphazard with neither any good shows coming it's way nor an all-India distribution.

Worse, hardly anyone even bothered to review this Sharman Joshi which was all set to be a doomed project.

There were hardly any footfalls and collections totally abysmal, which means no one would ever realise that this was one of those films that Sharman had actually signed during his 'Style' days.
