Popular director Dasari Yoganand is no more. He died of heart attack in Chennai on November 23. He was 84 and is survived by his wife Hanumayamma, two sons and three daughters.
Yoganand hailed from Guntur district. He entered the film industry and worked as an associate to Ramabrahmam and LV Prasad. It is LV Prasad who gave him a chance to direct a film under his banner. Yoganand's first film was 'Ammalakkalu.'
Yoganand had good intimacy with the legendary NT Rama Rao and famous music director TV Raju. In fact, they lived together in a room in Chennai. Most of Yoganand's films, numbering around 17 had NT Rama Rao in the lead.
His prominent films include Thodu Dongalu, Ilavelpu, Kodalu Diddina Kapuram, Ummadi Kutumbam, Muganomu, Jai Jawan, Vemulavada Bheema Kavi, Kathanayakuni Katha, Dabbuku Lokam Dasoham Jayasimha, Vade Veedu, Thodu Dongalu, Thikka Shankarayya and Pelli Sandadi. Not only in Telugu, Yoganand directed films in Tamil as well. His film Partheeban Kanavu bagged the President's Award during those days. Yoganand's 'Ummadi Kutumbam' was selected for screening at Masco Film Festival. He bagged several awards announced by Andhra Pradesh as well as Tamil Nadu governments.
