Film critics continue to misread Waltair Veerayya, others

'Waltair Veerayya' has turned out to be a big hit. As per the makers, it grossed Rs 108 Cr in the first weekend. Even if you are someone who is skeptical about BO figures, the fact remains that the movie has impressed the majority of audiences. A reasonably good chunk of the audience didn't like the movie, but they are a minority.

A lot of film critics didn't like the Bobby Kolli directorial. The negative reception to 'Waltair Veerayya' is reminiscent of how previous big-ticket outings were almost junked by film critics.

Event/spectacle films are proving film reviewers wrong - time and again. 'KGF: Chapter 1' received poor ratings in Telugu in 2018. 'Pushpa: The Rise' could have been rated better. 'RRR' was seen as underwhelming by many reviewers.

Balakrishna's 'Akhanda' became a blockbuster but hadn't received blockbuster ratings. Critics resorted to analyzing films like 'Uppena', which became a sensational hit, in ways the audience didn't agree with. 'Vikram', which went on to become the biggest Kamal Haasan blockbuster, was viewed narrowly by many critics.

For whatever reason, big-ticket movies continue to be misread by film critics. The media perhaps needs to hit the reboot button!
