Woman lodges rape complaint against missing activist Mugilan

Environmental activist Mugilan has been missing since February 15th night after he released video evidence that during the Sterlite Protests on May 22nd 2018 hired goons infiltrated the local protestors and caused riots which resulted in police firing that killed thirteen people. He had insisted that it is the work of the higher authorities and also claimed that his life is under threat and that he was boarding a train at the Egmore station in Chennai. Ever since that night, Mugilan has gone missing and advocate Sudha Ramalingam and Human Rights activist Henry Deepan have filed a habeas corpus in the high court and the cops have been directed to investigate.

Mugilan has been missing for over a month and a half now and in a shocking turn of events a woman has lodged a police complaint in the Kulithalai Taluk in Karur district claiming that Mugilan raped her several times. According to the complainant she had pariticipated in many protests with Mugilan and became friendly and on February 27th Mugilan forced himself on her in a lodge near Neduvasal bus stand. It is also said that when the woman refused Mugilan had promised to marry her and then had sex with her many times.

Based on the complaint the Kulithalai police have booked Mugilan under IPC 417 (Cheating), 376 (Rape) and 4(H) Crime against women. A number of social activist and common people who have been supporting Mugilan and have been raising their voices for finding his whereabouts have been left in a state of utter shock.
