The album has a strong Tamil flavour to it. Given that S A Rajkumar is the music director speaks a lot for the overall tone of the film’s music. Nava Vasantam is the story of four friends and revolves around friendship and love. It was earlier made in Tamil as Punnagai Desam about three years back. This explains why the album does not have ‘newness’ to it!
Layliley
Singers : Tippu Lyricist : E.S.Murthy
Layliley is a chorus number, picturised on all the friends. Tippu is the lead singer who sings the Telugu lyrics with ease. The chorus of Layliley has a slight Arabic feel to it, barring which the song is like any other regular song on friendship.
Choosa Choosa
Singers : Udit Narayan, Rita Lyricist : SA. Raj Kumar, A. Srinivas
Choosa choosa is a romantic number by Udit Narayan and Rita. It’s a peppy number picturised on the lead pair Tarun and Priyamani. Despite having sung so many songs in Telugu, Udit Narayan’s voice still sounds fresh and that’s the only highlight of the song.
 Patale Pranamani
Singers : SP. Balasubramaniam Lyricist : ES. Murthy
Patale pranamani is a rather heavy number, rendered by S P Balasubramaniam. It is really nice to hear his voice after a long time, but the song has the ’80s feel to it. While Balu sings it with his usual panache, one cannot help but feel that such songs are passé by today’s tastes.
Thakadhimi
Singers : Rahul, Rita
Thakadhimi by Ritu and Rahul is a fast number. Looks like Rajkumar has composed this song keeping the younger audiences in mind. It is somewhat similar to Layliley though in parts!
Aakasam
Singers :Tippu, Srinivas, Gopika Poornima Lyricist : Anantha Srinivas
Aakasam is an ode to friendship sung by Tippu, Srinivas and Gopika Poornima. This number reminds one of the earlier Nava Vasantam, which too had a similar theme and songs that sounded similar.
 Kadha Kaadu
Singers : Ranjith Lyricist : E.S.Murthy
Kadha kaadu by Ranjith is more of a fusion number. As is the norm these days, Rajkumar has tried to mix ‘n’ match rap and traditional notes.
Mooga Manasu
Singers : Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam Lyricist : Anantha Sriram
Mooga manasu by Hariharan and Sadhna Sargam is another usual romantic number. Both Hariharan and Sadhna cannot salvage this monotonous song.
All in all, it’s a good album if you are collecting songs based on friendship.
