Venom Review

Venom: An average superhero

Finally yes, Venom proves that a superhero movie can be disastrous. Remember the spider man movie when Peter Parker gets sucked into Venom's universe and turns a baddie? Yes, venom is a spin off from there. Tom Hardy, the man who can fit into any character looks amiss in this superhero movie that goes with a tag line of : The world has seen enough superheroes. For the brilliant actor that he is, the dose of comedy and two faced venom looks rather unconvincing but if not for him, Venom falls flat.

Venom starts off by trying to convince audiences that Hardy's Brock character is a hard-hitting investigative journalist who reports on the things others usually hesitate. So, when Eddie’s boss instructs him to do a news piece on Carlton Drake, a tech tycoon who does rockets and pharmaceuticals, he rejects the idea. For some inexplicable reason, his boss forces him to do it anyway. At this point you already know what happens. Eddie finds stunning criminalizing information about Drake's organization and catches him off guard during the interview. Afterward, Eddie is immediately fired. Six months later, and Eddie is out of work and alone-his fiance, Anne Weying (Michelle Williams) immediately called off their engagement after he was fired. Just when things couldn't get any worse, Eddie is approached by Dr. Dora Skirth (Jenny Slate) with information about Drake's secret experiments, which is about forcing symbiotes to accept humans as hosts. why? So humans can go live in space, Eddie the investigative journalism in him smells a rat and sneaks into Drake's lab and manages to infect himself with the symbiote known as Venom. What happens over the next few hours is for you to find out, in the means to mix humor with action, the end product is half baked.

Based on the character from the Spider-Man comics, Venom tries to be all things to everyone, the dialogues in particular are funny yes, no doubts there. It’s not scary, the CGI is just about considering the level of heavy VFX we got to see these days. The laughs are few and far between. In the US, the Venom comic is a huge hit, the comical avatar of this character gets a good grab and for the die hard fans of Venom it should be an exciting moment to see the character larger than life.

Like its title character, Venom is a curious, capricious creature that feels like it came from an entirely different world. It's tame when it is supposed to be gory, quick when it should be slow and vice versa. The fun parts are truly when venom and hardy character have a standoff, its a fun moment to watch, almost like various other split personality movies that the characters within a body fight among them.

Verdict : The spinoff from Spiderman 3 is average on its content and VFX action, go  for it if you are a die hard fan of Tom Hardy; otherwise give it a miss.
